The Cavern

Michael Rickaby

Illustration
Science Fiction

Note from the artist:
This is what I'd call a Rattle-Can space painting.  It's done completely with rattle can spray paint, cardboard, sticks, bottle caps, frisbees or whatever works best.  This particular painting I wanted to illustrate from a cavern dweller's point of view.  I never know exactly what I'll paint next, it just happens.

Michael Rickaby is a mild mannered Structural Designer by day, but has an alter ego as an wild eyed illustrator by night.  He has been drawing all of his life, but only discovered a talent for comic book illustration seven years ago.  Better late than never they always say.  Since then he has developed this talent and published two extended length comic books at CE Publishing Group and has worked for too many other publishers to count in between.  So being no stranger to cover art and visual appeal it only seemed natural to make an attempt at cover and interior art for speculative fiction.  And what better place to illustrate for than Double Edged Publishing where he can focus not only on art but also express his Christian Faith.  Mike has several avenues for which to illustrate projects, from traditional pen, paint and ink to complete digital illustration capabilities.  He uses Adobe CS4, Painter 11 and Manga Studio EX, whatever program best suits the job.  Whether its science fiction, fantasy, horror, adventure, monsters, ghouls, villians and especially heroes he loves to illustrate them all.
