Refuge   -
Honorable Mention (short form), 2008 Poetry Contest

PS Cottier

Poetry
Fantasy

Exiled by sudden eight-year-old tyrant,
who clasps black remote control sceptre
and promotes pixelation over pixies,
the magic ones leave, dragging wings,
erasing violet spells from thinning air.

Behind that lulling flat desert screen,
the fairies raise silver tents of refuge.
Wise and delicate, they wait, and watch.
Opal eggs of wonder will one day hatch;
new children take their hands and fly.
