New fiction...

What a nice, thought-provoking story. It's about fear, but I also think this is a coming-of-age story. The narrator realizes that there are some things you just have to face in order to live a full life in society. The ending is delightfully ambiguous, but I think (hope) that the narrator does fall and survive. Well done.

That's an interesting thought--that this is a coming of age story. I didn't see it that way, perhaps because I am well into my late 50's. I saw it as part of the struggle we all deal with every day--to overcome fear and to step forward, to "leap into the boundless and make it our home", at each point in our lives. I particularly loved the language that Donna used...it is so rich. I feel like when reading the story, every word is to be savored, because every word has been so carefully chosen to tell what is a very universal story.
